Why We Use a Password

We have been informed that information on living family members contained within is starting to appear on other webpages, particularly those without password protection.  It is disappointing when someone granted the password puts this personal information out for all to see, but more irritating when the website owner obtains the password from other sources.

What we are forced to do is try and contain this situation before it gets much worse:

-  The GEDCOM file will no longer be available for download.

-  The password has been changed, and you must re-request it.

-  To get the password, you must agree to the following:
   -  Do not place data on living relatives on an unpassworded website.

   -  Do not give family information to a genealogy site or company.
   -  Do not give the password to anyone else.  They need to ask us directly so we can keep track.

In addition, if you do not think these methods will be sufficient in maintaining your privacy, and would like information about yourself excised from our database, we will remove it.

If these methods prove unsuccessful in stopping this abuse, then we will have to restrict our site to only deceased individuals, a major exercise for us, and a great loss for researchers.
